Barclays CEO probed for trying to unmask whistleblower
10 Apr 2017

What do we know so far?

CEO of Barclays Plc Jes Staley is being investigated by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for breaking rules about the treatment of whistleblowers. Staley twice tried to use Barclays’ internal security team, once with the assistance of a US law enforcement agency, to identify the author of an anonymous letter expressing concerns about a senior Barclays executive. Both attempts were unsuccessful. Attempting to identify whistleblowers is a breach of both FCA regulations and Barclays’ own rules.
