Is the north Korean economy vibrant enough to withstand sanctions?

In North Korea, a land of mysteries, puzzles, and riddles, let me add a question: How fast is the economy growing?

A New York Times article from the end of last month hints that growth is fast. “The economy in North Korea is showing surprising signs of life,” the paper notes.

In reality, economic activity appears sluggish. And we should care about the North’s rate of growth because, among other things, the state of the economy is relevant to the efforts of the international community to disarm an increasingly dangerous Kim regime.
