Authorities in Kenya have arrested six individuals regarding $20 million in counterfeit notes that were stored in a personal safety deposit box at a branch of Barclays Kenya.
“The fake notes in 100 Dollar denominations were recovered from the Bank’s Safe Room,” the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a brief statement on Twitter.
Two of the bank’s staff are among those arrested, as well as an individual that the DCI referred to as a ‘fake investor.’
“The customer had concealed fake currency in his personal safe deposit box against the bank’s rules and regulations which include restrictions of items which can be held in the safe deposit box,” Barclays Africa reportedly said in a statement.
