Reserve Bank of India boss Urjit Patel quits
10 Dec 2018

The governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Urjit R. Patel, has announced his resignation from the post with immediate effect.

Patel said he was resigning because of ‘personal reasons.’

The development comes amid reports of a growing split between the government and the central bank.

“It has been my privilege and honour to serve in the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities over the years,” Patel said.

“The support and hard work of RBI staff, officers and management has been the proximate driver of the Bank’s considerable accomplishments in recent years.”
